What are the rules of the on here?

ChinaGlobe offers a chatline community that aims to be appropriate for kids and teens as well as adults. So we expect people to behave in a polite and civilized manner. That means keeping your language clean, topics of conversation acceptable, and following our Codes of Conduct.

How to Start? 

In order to connect to ChinaGlobe you must have a browser that supports frames. Netscape2.0+ or Internet Explorer 3.0+ will do. Recommended Netscape3.0+ or Internet Explorer4.0+.  You don't need Java to get on this chat. If you are using Lynx or other browsers click here.

  • From ChinaGlobe Front page, pick a chat room, then enter your nickname without spaces in the login box. Nickname can be anything, doesn't have to be your real name. 

  • Click Chat Now! button to enter chat.

  • Start talking. Enter text into the chat input box like "hi" and press "send" button or hit "enter" on your keyboard. Remember to hit the enter key once and wait for the message to be sent.

What do I do if somebody's hassling/sending/flooding me foul language messages?

Here at ChinaGlobe we are aiming for friendly chat without problems but sometimes there are cases in which we can't control the act of others.  Use the command /silence nickname!*@*  to ignore messages from the person. To remove the ignore type /silence -nickname!*@*. 

Will ChinaGlobe work on all computers?

ChinaGlobe works on all computer with browser supporting Frames, including Netscape2.0+ and Internet Explorer3.0+.  If you don't have  a browser you can get on Netscape via Telnet at chat.chinaglobe.com 6677 or IRC at server /server chat.chinaglobe.com 6667. For more information click here.

How do I get into ChinaGlobe using America Online?

You can get into ChinaGlobe using AOL if you have Netscape2.0+ or Internet Explorer3.0.  Please download the program if you can't use the Browser included with AOL.

The most attractive feature on ChinaGlobe is enabling other websites to have the login chatbox on their homepages to enable people vising those sites to get on chat without having to go to ChinaGlobe homepage. I get a blank screen once in a while when chatting?

Due to bug in buffer of Netscape and IE causing it to turn blank, you can go around this by hitting Reload on Netscape or Refresh on Internet Explorer when this happens.  Remember hitting reload or Refresh won't disconnect you from Chatting.

I still can't login. Is there any other ways to get on ChinaGlobe?

Yes!  There other ways for you to get on ChinaGlobe using Telnet or IRC programs. For information on Telnet click here.  To get to ChinaGlobe using Internet Relay Chat (IRC) program such as mIRC click here.

How do I find out who are in the room?

To find out who are in the room click on Names button or type /names #roomname.

How do I find out who is who?

You can do it using the command /whois nickname.  This command will list up the host of the person using the chat and/or any other relevant information the person may have.

Can I join another room while in Chat?

Yes you can be on several rooms at the same time.  To join other room type /join #roomname.  Example: /join #China.

My Netscape or Internet Explorer doesn't work?

You probably have an old version of Netscape or IE.  Please download a new Netscape or Internet Explorer version.
